Machine Translation Summit 2025: Call for Papers

The European Association for Machine Translation (EAMT) invites submissions to the MT Summit 2025, focusing on machine translation and translation-related tools and resources. The conference aims to showcase cutting-edge research, professional MT implementation insights, and the experiences of translation studies scholars and practitioners.

Submission Categories

Research - Technical

  • Page Limit: Up to 10 pages, plus unlimited pages for references, appendices, and sustainability statement.
  • Topics: Reports of significant research results in any aspect of machine translation and related areas, including latest advances, model distillation, efficiency improvements, few-shot adaptation, MT for low-resource languages, LLMs for translation, augmenting MT with AI, comparative evaluations, interactive MT, error detection, fairness and bias, advanced MT fine-tuning, MT deployment technologies, MT for multiple modalities, MT in production scenarios, linguistic resources, MT quality estimation, and related multilingual technologies.
  • Requirements: Papers should describe original work, emphasize completed work, include substantial evaluation components or strong theoretical/methodological contributions. Papers must be written in English, anonymized, and prepared according to specified templates.

  • Track chairs: Catarina Farinha (Unbabel) and Marco Gaido (Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Italy).

Research - Translators and Users

  • Page Limit: Up to 10 pages, plus unlimited pages for references, appendices, and sustainability statement.
  • Topics: Academic research on how professional translators and other MT users interact with, are affected by, or conceptualize machine translation. Topics include the impact of MT and post-editing, emerging areas for MT & post-editing, ethics and policy, evaluation of translation modalities, MT and interpreting, post-editing methods, interaction with MT and generative AI tools, MT and LLM integration, MT for gisting, MT and usability, MT and education/language learning.
  • Requirements: Papers should report significant research results with a strong theoretical and/or methodological contribution. Papers should be written in English, anonymized, and prepared according to specified templates.
  • Submission: Via EasyChair MT Summit 2025 (submission type: MT Summit 2025 Research Translators and Users).
  • Track chairs: Joke Daems (Ghent University, Belgium) and Dorothy Kenny (Dublin City University, Ireland).

Implementations and Case Studies

  • Page Limit: 4-6 pages, with a maximum of 10 pages including references.
  • Topics: Reports on case studies and implementation experience with MT in organizations. Topics include integrating MT in workflows, managing change, implementing open-source MT, evaluating MT in real-world settings, ethical and confidentiality issues, using MT in social networking, MT and usability, implementing MT for assimilation purposes, MT in literary/audiovisual/game localization, impact of MT on translation practices, psycho-social aspects of MT adoption, error analysis and post-editing strategies, using translator metadata, freelance translators' use of MT, MT and interpreting, and Generative AI/LLM integration.
  • Requirements: Papers should highlight real-world use scenarios, solutions, and problems, with suggestions for MT researchers and developers. Co-authorship with organizations is required for academic papers. Anonymization is not required.

  • Track chairs: Samuel Läubli (Textshuttle/Supertext, Switzerland) and Martin Volk (University of Zurich, Switzerland).

Products and Projects

  • Page Limit: 2 pages, including references.
  • Subtracks:
    • Products: Tools for MT, computer-aided translation, and other translation technologies (commercial and open-source). Descriptions should include availability, licensing, cost, functionality, technologies used, and readiness for demos or posters.
    • Projects: Research projects funded through grants. Descriptions should include title, acronym, funding agency, reference, duration, partners, objectives, and results. Authors should be ready to present projects as posters.
  • Requirements: Papers should be written in English and formatted according to specified templates. Anonymization is not required.

  • Track chairs: Miquel Esplà-Gomis (University of Alicante, Spain) and Vincent Vandeghinste (KU Leuven, Belgium).

Sustainability Statement

Authors are strongly encouraged to comply with "Green AI" principles and focus on reducing the environmental cost of MT. Computational experiments should report average runtime, estimate energy cost, and include a carbon impact statement following provided guidelines. Tools for estimating carbon emissions are listed for reference.
