Overview
The ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC) is scheduled for December 3-6, 2025, in Washington, D.C., USA. SEC serves as a forum for researchers, engineers, and professionals to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by edge computing, adopting a broad view that embraces various aspects of this technology.
Call for Papers: ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC)
The Tenth ACM/IEEE Symposium on Edge Computing (SEC) will be held from December 3-6, 2025, in Washington, D.C., USA. SEC is a forum for top researchers, engineers, students, entrepreneurs, and government officials to discuss the opportunities and challenges that arise from rethinking cloud computing architectures and embracing edge computing.
SEC takes a broad view of edge computing and solicits contributions from many fields of systems practice that embrace any aspect of edge computing.
Topics of Interest
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Communication infrastructure (e.g., cellular, satellite, LoRa) for edge computing
- Distributed ledger technology (DLT) & blockchain at the edge
- Socio-economic aspects of edge computing
- Edge computing as an enabler of 5G applications and services
- Edge computing infrastructure (e.g., IoT hubs) and its sustainability
- Emerging applications at the edge, such as the metaverse, smart environments, and remote sensing
- The role of edge computing in sustainable computing
- Interfaces between edge, cloud, and HPC systems
- Geo-distributed analytics and indexing on edge nodes
- Hardware architectures for edge computing and devices
- Monitoring, measurements, management, and diagnosis in edge computing
- Networking, e.g., from clients to the edge, and from the edge to the cloud
- Programming models and toolkits
- Resource management, scalability, and reliability for edge computing
- Security and privacy issues
- Storage and data management technologies for edge computing
- Techniques and algorithms for machine learning, federated learning, and AI at the edge
- Edge AI technologies (e.g., copilots, language models, and foundation models) in developing, optimizing, and generalizing edge systems and their configurations
- Edge-enabled applications, such as in vehicular, enterprise, and manufacturing systems
Submissions that include systems implementation and their performance evaluation are particularly encouraged.
Submission Types
- Research Papers: Papers will be judged on novelty, significance, clarity, relevance, and correctness. A best paper award will be presented. Maximum length: 12 single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages, including figures and tables, but excluding references. Accepted papers will be allowed two additional pages.
- Position Papers: These should describe current advances and challenges in edge computing practice and academic research. Maximum length: 6 pages, using single-spaced 8.5" x 11" paper, including figures and tables, but excluding references.
Submission Guidelines
- Format: Papers must be in PDF format.
- Submission System: Submit through https://sec25.hotcrp.com/. No email submissions will be accepted.
- Formatting: Papers must use 10-point type on 11-point (single-spaced) leading, two-column format, Times Roman, or a similar font, within a text block 6.5" wide x 9" deep. IEEE Standard templates for Latex and Word meet these specifications and can be found at: https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html.
- Anonymization: The review process will be double-blind. Authors must make a good faith effort to keep their submissions anonymous, and they should not identify themselves either explicitly or by implication; for example, cite prior work as though it belongs to a third party. Submissions violating formatting and anonymization rules will not be considered for review.
- Presentation: By submitting a paper, you agree that at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present it.
- ACM Policies: Authors are subject to all ACM Publications Policies, including ACM's Publications Policy on Research Involving Human Participants and Subjects. Ensure you and your co-authors obtain an ORCID ID.
Reviewing Process with One-shot Revision
SEC'25 has one submission deadline. Each paper will go through a rigorous reviewing process with the following decisions:
- Accept: Papers accepted for publication and presentation, possibly after minor changes.
- One-shot Revision: Papers asked to revise based on reviews and resubmit for a final decision. Only adequately revised papers will be accepted.
- Reject: Papers declined for inclusion in the conference.
