The International Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) 2026 will be held in Barcelona, Spain, from April 13-17, 2026. CHI is the leading international conference on Human-Computer Interaction, offering various submission types including papers, posters, interactive demos, panels, and workshops. The conference will be conducted in person with no hybrid or remote attendance, though authors may present remotely.

CHI 2026: Call for Papers

The International Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems (CHI) 2026 will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from April 13–17, 2026.

CHI is the premier international conference on Human-Computer Interaction.

Submission Areas and Types:

CHI 2026 features six submission areas allowing for a plurality of submission types:

  • Papers: Long and short archival academic work from design to systems, covering qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research. Submissions can be 5,000 words or less (Short Papers) or between 5,000 and 12,000 words (Standard-Length Papers).
  • Posters: For late-breaking works and shorter presentations of ideas and findings.
  • Interactive Demos: Innovative, creative, and fun exhibitions of research and technology in action.
  • Panels: Interactive expert discussion led discourse with audience questions, endorsements, and rebuttals.
  • Workshops: Focused sessions on a central theme of research, either established or emerging.
  • Meet-Ups: Discussions, birds-of-a-feather, and meet-and-greet events to foster community and conversations.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Submission Portal: Submissions must be made through the Precision Conference Submission Portal.
  • Revised & Resubmit Process: CHI 2026 papers will follow the revise & resubmit process.
  • Paper Length: Concise writing is strongly encouraged. Short papers (<= 5,000 words) and Standard-Length Papers (5,000-12,000 words) are accepted. Submissions over 12,000 words without strong justification will be desk-rejected.
  • Stand-Alone Requirement: All important information must be in the main paper. Appendices and supplementary materials are optional and not guaranteed to be read by reviewers.
  • Accessibility: All submissions must follow the SIGCHI Guide to an Accessible Submission. Contact access@chi2026.acm.org for questions.
  • Inclusivity: Authors should ensure their work and writing are as inclusive as possible.
  • Anonymization: Submissions must adhere to the Anonymization Policy.
  • Large Language Models (LLMs): Text generated by LLMs must be marked. Refer to the ACM Policy on Authorship and SIGCHI blog post for guidance.
  • Human Participants: Research involving human subjects must adhere to appropriate ethics review requirements. Consult the ACM Publications policy on research involving humans.
  • Concurrent Submissions: Related submissions must be declared. Refer to the ACM guide on prior and simultaneous submissions.

Publication:

  • All CHI 2026 papers will be published under ACM Open Access.
  • Authors from institutions not participating in ACM Open may need to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC).
  • Authors can optionally upload a video presentation by Thursday, March 12, 2026.
  • Authors of accepted papers are required to present their work at CHI 2026.
