Submission Policies

  • Papers submitted for consideration to FSE should not have been already published elsewhere and should not be under review or submitted for review elsewhere during the reviewing period.
  • Authors are required to adhere to the ACM Policy and Procedures on Plagiarism and the ACM Policy on Prior Publication and Simultaneous Submissions.
  • To prevent double submissions, the chairs might compare submissions with related conferences that have overlapping review periods. The double submission restriction applies only to refereed journals and conferences, not to unrefereed forums (e.g. arXiv.org).
  • To check for plagiarism issues, the chairs might use external plagiarism detection software.
  • All publications are subject to the ACM Author Representations policy.
  • All authors and co-authors are subject to ACM Publications Policies, including ACM’s new Publications Policy on Research Involving Human Participants and Subjects.
  • Possible violations to any of the above policies will be reported to ACM for further investigation.

Submission Format

  • All submissions must be in English and in PDF format.
  • Papers must not exceed the page limits that are listed for each call for papers. Refer to each track's submission page for specific limits.
  • Authors should use the official "ACM Primary Article Template", available from the ACM Proceedings Template page.
  • The resulting format should be two-columns.
  • For LaTeX users, the following code can be used at the start of the document:
    % For main proceedings (research track)
    \documentclass[sigconf,screen]{acmart}
    % For companion proceedings (all other tracks)
    \acmBooktitle{Companion Proceedings of the 33rd ACM Symposium on the Foundations of Software Engineering (FSE '25), June 23--27, 2025, Trondheim, Norway}

Double-Anonymous Review Process

  • The Research Papers Track employs a double-anonymous review process. Please check the call for papers for other tracks to see if they also use this process.
  • Authors must ensure their submissions do not reveal their identities:
    • Leave out author names and affiliations from the body of the submission.
    • Cite related work by themselves in the third person (e.g., "the prior work of XYZ" as opposed to "our prior work").
    • Do not include URLs to author-revealing sites (tools, datasets). Replication packages are encouraged and details can be found in the FSE Open Science Policy.
    • Anonymize author-revealing company names; use general characteristics of organizations instead.
    • Ensure paper acknowledgements do not reveal the origin of the work.
  • Papers that do not comply with the double-anonymous review process (for tracks that employ it) may be desk-rejected.
  • Authors are advised to postpone publishing submitted work on arXiv or similar sites until after the notification of acceptance.
