Call for Papers: CogSIMA 2025

Welcome to CogSIMA 2025

The 2025 IEEE Conference on Cognitive and Computational Aspects of Situation Management (CogSIMA) will be held at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Campus Duisburg, from June 2 - 5, 2025, in Duisburg, Germany.

CogSIMA 2025 is sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society (SMCS) and supported by the IEEE SMCS Technical Committees on Cognitive Situation Management and on Interactive and Wearable Computing and Devices.

The theme of the conference will be "Improved Situation Awareness in Theory and Application".

Topics of Interest

CogSIMA 2025 continues to push forward the boundaries of cognitive situation management research. The conference is a premier scientific forum for presenting novel results on interdisciplinary studies of complex heterogeneous dynamical systems that include humans, physical systems, and computer agents whose behaviors depend on situations.

Quantitative and/or qualitative methods and results are welcome, as well as hypotheses-driven or more open-ended exploratory work. Submissions must clearly outline the methodology (manipulations, measurements, environment and context, etc.) and technologies used, for both replicability and enabling in-depth review. In addition, research providing novel system designs, algorithms, interface technologies, and computational methods supporting elements of situation management are encouraged. Submitted papers should address issues related to the general domain of situation management.

Examples of systems include:

  • Command and control systems
  • Disaster monitoring and recovery systems
  • Human-robot teams
  • Physical and cyber security situation awareness systems
  • Intelligent transportation systems
  • Health care medical situation control systems
  • And many others.

Submission Types and Guidelines

We invite two types of submissions: Regular Papers and Poster Presentations.

Regular Papers

  • Length: 5-8 pages.
  • Content: Describe new results that advance the state-of-the-art.
  • Presentation: Each accepted paper will be allocated approximately 25 minutes for oral presentation.

Poster Presentations

  • Length: 3-5 pages.
  • Content: Describe work in progress.
  • Presentation: Each accepted poster will be presented in a 5 min. talk in the poster session.

Submission Process

  • Review: All papers must present original and unpublished work that is not currently under review elsewhere. Each paper will be reviewed by at least three independent referees. Papers will be evaluated according to their significance, originality, technical content, style, clarity, and relevance to the conference.
  • Format: Authors should prepare a Portable Document Format (PDF) version of their paper using the stylesheet templates provided by IEEE.
  • Submission Platform: All paper submissions will be handled electronically in EDAS.
  • Submission Link: Call for Papers (Note: A direct link to the EDAS submission page for CogSIMA 2025 was not provided. This is a general IEEE author information link. The flyer link is: CogSIMA 2025 Flyer)

Publication and Presentation Requirements

  • Publication: Accepted papers and poster presentations will be submitted for publication in the IEEE Xplore® Digital Library.
  • Copyright: Authors of accepted submissions will need to sign an IEEE copyright release form.
  • Presentation: At least one author of an accepted paper is required to register for the conference at the full rate and the paper must be presented by an author of that paper at the conference on-site in Duisburg, unless the TPC grants permission for a substitute presenter or alternative presentation mode arranged in advance.

Important Dates

  • Regular & Poster Papers due: December 20, 2024 (firm!)
  • Notification of Acceptance: February 25, 2025
  • Camera Ready due: March 25, 2025
