The 35th International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS) will be held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, from November 9-14, 2025. ICAPS is the premier forum for research on intelligent and automated planning and scheduling technology. The conference will be co-located with KR-2025, CPAIOR-2025, and the Planning and Optimisation Summer School 2025.

ICAPS 2025: Call for Papers

The International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling (ICAPS) is the premier forum for exchanging news and research results on the theory and applications of intelligent and automated planning and scheduling technology.

ICAPS 2025, the 35th edition of the series, will be held in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, from November 9-14, 2025. The conference program committee invites paper submissions covering all aspects of automated planning and scheduling.

Submission Categories

Contributions are welcome in the following categories:

  • Theoretical papers: Focusing on analytical tools, complexity results, expressiveness, and new theoretical frameworks.
  • Algorithmic papers: Describing novel perspectives and substantial improvements for solving planning and scheduling problems.
  • Modelling papers: Presenting new representations of planning and scheduling problems and their solutions.
  • Position papers: Offering critiques, new perspectives, meta-analyses, challenge problems, historical perspectives, and technical discussions.
  • Tools papers: Describing useful systems built with novel algorithmic and engineering techniques, such as integrated planning systems, model checkers, synthesis tools, libraries, and benchmarking applications.

Topics of Interest

All submissions to the main technical track must be classified by high-level topics and relevant subject-matter keywords. A list of these can be found on the ICAPS 2025 homepage.

2024

  • October 1, 2024: Submission site opens
  • October 25, 2024: Abstracts due
  • November 1, 2024: Full papers due (electronic submission, PDF)
  • November 15, 2024: Desk reject notification
  • December 16, 2024: Phase 1 author notification

2025

  • January 30 to February 4, 2025: Author feedback period
  • February 5 to February 28, 2025: Discussion phase
  • March 1, 2025: Notifications are sent to authors

Author Guidelines

  • All paper types can be submitted as either long (8 pages AAAI style plus one page of references) or short (4 pages plus one page of references). Indicate the length at submission.
  • Over-length papers will be rejected without review.
  • All papers will be reviewed based on relevance, originality, significance, clarity, and soundness.
  • Review Process Outcomes:
    1. Acceptance for oral presentation and inclusion in archival proceedings.
    2. Acceptance for poster presentation and non-archival extended abstract (disseminated via the ICAPS 2025 website).
    3. Rejection.
  • Papers submitted to ICAPS 2025 may not be submitted to other conferences or journals during the ICAPS 2025 review period.
  • Authors making multiple submissions must ensure each has significant, unique content.

Format and Presentation

  • The format of ICAPS 2025 will be in-person. At least one author of each accepted paper is expected to register and present their work in person, unless exceptional circumstances prevent this.
  • Use of Generative AI: Papers including text generated from an LLM are prohibited unless presented as part of the paper's experimental analysis. Using LLMs for editing or polishing author-written text is permitted.
  • Ethical / Societal Impact: Authors are encouraged to include a statement of potential broader impact, including ethical aspects and future societal consequences.
  • Best Paper Awards and Journal Fast Track: Best non-student and student papers may receive an invitation to submit an extended version to journals like JAIR or AIJ.

Submission Instructions

  • All submissions will be made electronically via OpenReview.
  • Submitted papers must be anonymous for double-blind reviewing.
  • Adhere to page limits and follow the author kit instructions for formatting.
  • Supplementary material (videos, proofs, additional results) can be submitted but must be anonymised unless stated otherwise.
  • Failure to comply with submission instructions will result in desk rejection.

Double-blind Requirements

  • Omit names and institutions.
  • Refer to prior work (own or others') in the third person.
  • Ensure acknowledgements or ethics statements do not reveal identity.
  • Posting manuscripts on arXiv.org is permitted, but avoid doing so during the critical bidding and paper assignment window.
